Pantone declares the color of the year every year. They tend to pick some interesting names. Anyone remember Oxblood? But what’s consistent is, even if you’re not fashion savvy or obsessed with the latest runway trends, wearing the color of the year is a quick way to update your look. I know, sometimes it’s not your thing. You may think it’s not flattering on your skin tone. But there are ways to work it in without looking washed out or silly. This year Pantone worked overtime and when choosing the colors of the moment, season, year. For 2016, Pantone released TWO colors, Rose Quartz, a pretty pink and Serenity, a calming blue. Pantone intended for the colors to be worn as a combo. That might be a stretch for some. You get to choose how much and where you’ll wear the trendy colors if at all. Go for a tiny bit or a head to toe color wrap. If either looks against your skin, go all out. If you wonder how you’ll wear it, especially as a combo, read on.
The Tiny Dose
A Rose Quartz hued mani or pedi is a no brainer. I love a neutral color for my manis so this is an easy sell for me. Don’t overlook the opportunity to swipe on a soft blue hue. If you’re like me and prefer pinks and nudes on your tips, try the blue on your toes. Why not? Live a little. Because it’s in the pink family, finding a Rose Quartz hued lippie should be easy. Sephora, Mac, Cover Girl, L’Oreal and Yves St. Laurent all make a version that you can try on your kisser. To wear both together try a Rose Quartz base with Serenity accents.
The Medium Match
A blouse in one of these delicate colors can lighten up your all black wardrobe. Or change up your all black and just one main color wardrobe. A few years ago I only had black and red clothing. Either color would work well in a professional wardrobe. Being that I’m a purse lover, I’d snatch up a rose quartz bag once I find a huge one. I carry a ton of stuff. To try the combo wear the serenity blouse with a Rose Quartz bag or shoe. A scarf in both colors is another good option for the color combo. Scarves tend to be more colorful and multi hued anyway. The combo can work even if you throw it on with an all black outfit.
Go All Out
A coat that you can rock no matter what color you have on underneath is the ultimate way to commit to a color of the year. Coats in either color look amazing on a variety of skin tones. If a coat is too much for your taste, go for a dress. Both Rose Quartz and Serenity toned dresses work well for Spring into Summer. The delicate pink can give you the sweet look while the cool blue is still soft without being obvious girly. I tend to go for the obvious. Try the color combo by adding accents like a belt or clutch to the primary color. Wrap a scarf in the second color to rock both at the same time.
Out of the two, I think Rose Quartz alone is the most versatile for me. I like a good pink and welcome the excuse to add more to the rotation. I’m not against trying out the combo though and will be on the lookout for accessories in both hues. How do you wear the colors of the year? Do you stick to all black and shun new color? Will you wear a combo of the two? Add your comments.
